Thursday Thirteen #6

Wow, it's been months (seriously, months!) since I did a Thursday Thirteen. Who knew live could become so hectic that I'd forget to do a weekly, themed blog post? Okay, you probably all knew...because it's happened before!

Since I'm just getting my feet wet again, I'll make this a simple one.

Thirteen Books That Made Me Want To Write...

1. The Three Musketeers (I wanted a girl-power version of this when I was about 11...so I wrote one!)
2. All of the "Ramona" books by Beverly Cleary...once I'd read through the books for my grade level, I wanted to "age" Ramona so I could keep reading her as I went through school
3. Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing
(yes, I'll get out of the kid books now)
4. Stranger with My Face by Lois Duncan - great YA suspense novel
5. All of those great "Sackett" books by Louis L'Amour...Yeah, I went through a western phase and his books had the ability to completely transport me to that time. I so wanted to be able to do that with my own writing.
6. Snow Bride by Margery Hilton - my first Harlequin Presents (stolen from my mom's bookshelf)...lots of Presents followed that one!
7. Unwilling Woman (another Harlequin, not a Presents and I can't think of the author's name)
8. The Donovan Legacy by Nora Roberts - the first of many Nora books that I read and loved...
9. In Times Like These by Emilie Loring
10. Love with Honor by Emilie Loring -- both of the Loring books were snagged from my mom's bookshelf...they were dog-eared and tattered so I know she loved 'em too. Emilie could create such a solid world. I loved that!
11. Victoria Holt - I won't name a specific book because there were about 8 that I read very quickly and as I finished each one, I wanted it to continue..I wanted to do that with my own books.
12. Little House in the Big Woods - it's the only Laura Ingalls Wilder book I read cover to cover...and I read it in a day and a half.
13. The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis - they transported me to another time and place and I wanted to do that very same thing for other readers.

Thanks for visiting my TT! I am really not familiar with most of those books, but as a writer I do know the power of reading. :)

I have three TTs this week, and have posted linkies (since google won't let me post them here)

Lots of good books on this list. I'd say the early books that affected me the most (and made me try to write my first books) were Walter Farley's Black Stallion series and Gone With the Wind.

Oh! And I forgot one (okay, I've probably forgotten about 20)... Tiger Eyes by Judy Blume. I still love that one!

I have not read any of those but it is always interesting to see what has inspired other writers.

Nora can inspire just about everyone! :-) The woman is a dynamo!

I still, to this day, love Ramona. I'm getting #2 hooked on her, in fact. Happily so. Howie... man, I wonder how he grew up.

sorry I'm so late... it's been a crazy few days here (in fact, my 13 isn't even on the front page anymore! Eek!)

Great post, Kristi! During my formative years, it was BRIGHTY OF THE GRAND CANYON by Marguerite Henry, CANDY STRIPERS by Lee Wyndham and GONE WITH THE WIND by Margaret Mitchell that inspired me to write. Thanks for your list. Now I have more to add to my 'must read' list.
