Hi, there, everyone! Time for another installment of my "5 Questions With..." blogterview series! Please help me welcome author Jerri Drennen to the blog. Jerri is a multi-published author, and has re-released one of her backlist titles, "Her Man Flint" as an indie author! I read the book a couple of years ago (loved it!) and am so excited it available again. Please help me welcome Jerri to the blog!

And now...on with the Q&A!
Kristina: Do you have (or do you aspire to have!) a writing process?
Jerri: I really don't think I have a writing process. Before my daughter and granddaughter came back to live with us, I used to write right after my kids were off to school. Now, I write when I can.
Kristina: When the writing gets tough, where do you get going?
Jerri: Well, lately nowhere. I haven't been writing. See, answer above. (hey, blog readers, have any advice for Jerri? Leave her a comment in the comments section!)
Kristina: What are you listening to right now and does your listening choice influence your writing?
Jerri: I don't generally listen to music while I write, but maybe I will now to block out distractions.
Kristina: Coffee, tea, soda, hot cocoa w/ extra marshmallows – what's your beverage of choice?
Jerri: Coffee--black and strong but don't tell my stomach doctor this. He'd be shaking his head at me.
Kristina: Tell us one interesting/funny/weird thing about this book or its characters that didn't make in 'between the covers'?
Jerri: I wrote this story a while ago so I really can't remember if there was anything that didn't make the book. It's pretty wild and crazy, so I doubt it.
Kristina: Tell us about Her Man Flint...
Jerri: It's not your typical romantic suspense, it got a lot of humor. But it's about two ex-lovers who are forced to work together to exonerate one of a murder they didn't commit.
About 'Her Man Flint':
If James Bond and Cleopatra Jones had a daughter, Adriana Kent would kick her ass.
Everything Adriana knows about being a top-notch, undercover agent she's learned from her partner, Flint Morgan, in and out of the sheets. That is, until he's caught between those same bed linens with another woman. Heartbroken, Adriana refuses to forgive him. But when 'the other woman' is found dead in Flint's apartment, she steps up to prove his innocence--he might be a womanizer, but he's no killer.
As Adriana closes in on a suspect, she's kidnapped and sent overseas to a sadistic prince who collects women like priceless pieces of art. Now this tough as nails agent finds herself playing the helpless courtesan to a man hell-bent on breaking her spirit. Flint arrives in the nick of time, dressed as a harem girl, fighting off randy guards and surly camels to rescue Adriana so they can fly back to the states to find a way to exonerate him for murder.
Excerpt--Her Man Flint
Her phone rang, sending her heart thumping. She picked it up. "Did you forget something?" Adriana assumed it was Mike again.
"Yeah, you wouldn't happen to have found that pair of trick handcuffs we experimented with, would you?" Adriana's heart sped up at the sound of Flint's deep, sexy voice. "And who is this?" she asked. "Jared? Frank?" Let him think she'd used them on more than one occasion, with someone other than him.
He growled. "You know darn well who this is."
Adriana smiled. Was that jealousy she heard in his tone? "Is that you, Flint?"
"Yes. So, do you have them or not. I have a date tonight and they might come in handy."
She snorted. "I think I left them at Mike's last night. Let me call him and see." She sounded cool and collected, but on the inside her heart wrenched at the thought of him in yet another woman's arms.
"Forget it. I'll think of something else creative. Of course you know that about me, don't you? Remember the night of the blackout and the flashlight?"
Adriana felt a rush of heat wash over her body at the memory.
"Yes, I remember. Do you remember the morning I found you in bed with Lindsey?" She tried to sound matter-of-fact.
"Yeah. What a night I had."
Adriana's chest tightened to almost painful proportions. "What do you want, Flint?"
"Can't a guy call his partner?" he asked innocently.
"I have a date. I have to go." Adriana held back the emotion clogging her throat. She didn't need this.
"I'm sorry, Adriana." The phone went dead.
Great. Now he says he's sorry. What did he mean? Sorry for what? Sorry he broke my heart? Sorry for what he said, or just sorry that I'd caught him in the act?
What did it really matter? Sorry or not, their relationship would never be the same—she'd never be the same.

Great excerpt, and good luck getting the writing going again. I think that's harder than writing in the first place was!
ReplyDeleteGreat excerpt! And I am totally IN LOVE with that cover!!!
ReplyDeleteAfter the world wakes up,it's so HARD to get any writing done. I wake up super early (4am, and sometimes earlier) and write like a fiend until everyone else wakes up. This means I have to snag a quick 15 min nap during the day and go to bed fairly early. But with kids and a hubby that works at home, it's the only way for me.
Good luck!!
Kristi, thank you so much for having me here today.
ReplyDeleteLiz, thanks for stopping by, and totally agree that it's hard to get into the groove again.
ReplyDeleteAimme, hi! You sound like me. I get up at around 3 and go to bed early. I think I miss a lot at night.
ReplyDeleteI also want to mention that the bio is a little outdated. I can't get to that page on my website to change things. I no longer have a book with Loose-id, but I have 1 with The Wild Rose Press and two with Liquid Silver Books. Oh, and we lost our Ivory Retreiver in April--two days shy of his tenth birthday.
ReplyDeleteJERRI!!! Welcome! Thanks for coming to the blog today. I'm so sorry about your Retreiver - it's so hard to lose those fur-babies. Good luck getting back into a writing-groove - and good, wonderful, amazing luck with 'Flint!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like an awesome book & I can't wait to read it! I LOVE that cover!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your dog :( - I don't know what I'd do without my Snickers baby!
As for the writing, I used to get my writing done at night (after the rest of the world was asleep) but my nephew moved back home in August and it's been difficult for me, as well! He stays up later than I do, and he doesn't know the meaning of "Be quiet!" Ha!
Good luck with getting back into the writing groove!
May God bless,
Trisha Wilson
Welcome to the world of self-publishing Jerri. Love the cover and excerpt! This is going on my "must buy" list.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck in this new/scary world you've entered.
Wish you had more time to write, I just *love* your stories!!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see how well this is going to do for you. :-)
Nice cover. Love all he colors. I will re-tweet this sounds like a good winter read and we got two inches last night.
ReplyDeleteOn finding someway to write, I don't know how young the baby is, but I took my daughter, 16 at the time, with three of her girlfriends to Applebees, each girl rewrote a scene where the heroine was kidnapped as I wrote. Two hours later, the ideas freaked me out but gave my character a little more backbone. Needless to say, the discussion on the way home allowed them to talk about things they abviously weren't talking about at home.
Rambled a tad, but let them help write.

Awesome book. I love Jerri's stories, they're the type of stories you will laugh, cry and fall in love all over again.
ReplyDeleteLove the book cover, but the truth is the art pales against the story inside. It's great!
ReplyDeleteLately when I'm stuck I find a video/song on Youtube that either fits the story I'm working on or inspires a character or plot, and play the darn thing over and over and over until I see the entire story in my mind. Then I write. If I hit a snag, I go back to that song.
Enjoyed this. Thank you!
Thank you, Trisha! It was hard since he was the best dog we ever had.
ReplyDeleteI have to say, Trish, this new avenue scares me a tad.
ReplyDeleteYou are too kind, Ellie.
ReplyDeleteThank so much for coming by, Mary!
ReplyDeleteJudy!! Many, many hugs for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try music to see if it doesn't work for me as well, David. Much appreciation!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great psychedelic cover! Totally makes me want to buy the book. I'm just starting out in Indie -- may I ask who designed it?

Helen, Elaina Lee did the cover. You can find her on facebook. She's a real talent and such a sweet person.
ReplyDeleteJerri! So excited to see you jumping into the self-publishing fray! Love your cover and love the excerpt. :)
ReplyDeleteAs for finding time to write without distractions...I've kind of trained myself to write through them. When I draft, I drown everything out with music. When I edit, music gets in the way, though, so then I usually try to block everything out mentally. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But as long as I get something done every day, I call it a success.
Wishing you many sales!
Hey, Jerri! Good to see you in the Indie market, finally!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving this book, especially the humor! I bought it for the really COOL retro cover.
ReplyDeleteYou're a hoot, Jerri!
Love the cover for this book. Great interview Jerri.
ReplyDeleteI agree with David try some music to see if that can get you in the right frame of mind.
Hi, Cynthia! Thank you for coming by. I'm seriously going to try music--see if it works for me.
ReplyDeleteAmber!!! I hope this venture works out.
ReplyDeleteStephanie, you made my day literally. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteLauren, yeah, Elaina did a great job on the cover.
ReplyDeleteGreat interview. I find that I have to leave the house in order to concentrate. Pathetic, I know but the cafe makes a nice cup of tea so it's not too bad :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the new release!
Congratulations on the new rerelease! I enjoyed the excerpt.
ReplyDeleteFantastic interview for an excellent book written by an exceptional author. I think I'm a officially a fan JD. Oh and Kristina, you have a killer website as well.
