Hey, readers! I have a new release out this week and I can't wait to share it with you! Here's a fun excerpt to get you started !

"I'm sorry I gave you such a hard time about finding the right guy. The partners will be so caught up in their own dates, no one will notice me."

Nick had his doubts about that. From the way Howard put himself between Nick and Daisy's door, he had a feeling her boss would keep a close eye on them. But Daisy didn't need that kind of worry.

"Did you really send Joe back because he drove a Smart Car?"

"I don't have a death wish, Nick," she said wryly. "Other than the trip to the airport, when is the last time you drove on the San Diego freeway?"

"Point taken. And Andrew?"

"I need complete silence when I sleep, and his voice was very nasally. I thought he had a bad cold and offered him some orange juice, but he insisted he was fine. That leaves adenoidal issues."
Nick chuckled. He'd never paid attention to Sam's voice, but now that he thought about it, he did sound a bit stuffed up most of the time. Maybe he should set up a specialist appointment. "Mitch?"

"Mitch of the Callused Hands?" She raised her eyebrows. "I just had a manicure."

"Right." He bit back a smile when Daisy held up her perfectly manicured, blue-painted fingernails.

"And if you weren't desperate, what would my crime against dating have been?"

Her brown gaze shuttered, but not before a little flash of something crossed her pretty eyes. A flash that made his stomach muscles clench.

"Nothing," she said finally. "You're perfect. On paper."

About Perfect on Paper:

Nicholas Vega started ManServants as a way to make extra cash in college; five years later, his business is bigger than he ever imagined. And it's in trouble. An angry ex-client wants to sue because one of his employees didn't sleep with her. To keep things going, Nick takes on a client of his own - his best friend Daisy MacIntosh.

Daisy needs a boyfriend in a bad way. Her current boss - and ex-lover - has planned a retreat and makes no bones about wanting her back in his bed, at least for the weekend. Daisy wants a barrier between them, and an on-paper boyfriend seems like the best idea.

The problem? Once they're playing at being in love, their fictional relationship might blow their real life friendship out of the water.

It's release day, readers, and I'm so excited about it! Today my book in the Sullivan's Sons continuity hits store shelves! Colby and Madalyn were so much fun to write, and I hope you have a ball reading all about them! Here's a peek inside the book!

Florida Warriors star defensive end, Colby Sullivan, is the best in the business, but since his parents dropped the news that he not only had a biological sister but a biological twin sister, he’s been on his heels. He feels like he’s in the middle of a cover defense with no one backing him on the strong side. Colby knows, as the eldest, it is his job to keep the family going, but he can’t figure out what all this means to him with the daily interruptions from either his well-meaning parents or his rallying brothers. A flirtation with the girl next door is the perfect distraction, but all too soon she’s way past his defenses and heading for a touchdown that his heart just isn’t ready for.

Between her baby sister’s wedding and her job rehabbing Colby’s image, Madalyn Hunter is holding on by a thread. Mad understands football, cover defenses, and option offenses, but dealing with sneaky paparazzi, her sister’s obsession with the perfect wedding, and Colby’s not-friend-like kisses has her ready to throw a Hail Mary. The more time she spends with Colby, the harder it is to resist the gorgeous man who has always been her best friend. It’s fourth and goal with love on the line, but can Madalyn teach this star defender that the best way to protect his heart is to give it to her?
A new year means a new year's resolution...at least it does for a lot of people. For me, I gave up on resolutions years ago when I realized I was breaking them within a few weeks, feeling badly about it, circling around the guilt drain, and then resetting the resolution/breaking it/circling the drain again.

I thought, there has to be a better way to do this whole new year/new you thing. That's when I stumbled upon the Word of the Year theme - a word that I ruminate upon and think about and use to put my goals for the year into the action. I thought that was a much more effective way of approaching goal setting, and I liked that it wasn't something that could easily be broken because the word I choose is something that can be reset throughout the year. Just as my goals are reset on a monthly and quarterly basis.

That resetting is key, at least for me. Because I can see where I've been, I can see what has been or hasn't been working, and I can adjust accordingly. Five years later, I'm still doing the word of the year thing, and I'm liking it. In the past, I've chosen words like Focus and Enjoy and Think.

Last year, I chose GROW because I wanted to expand my career, my personal life, and my interests. And in a lot of ways grow was a great choice - thanks to a couple of reading challenges, I broke out of a reading rut, and renewed my interest in reading so many things - non-fiction, biographies, memoirs, romantic suspense...and, yes, contemporary romance. I saw my first big series (more than 3) of books published, I had a total of 5 books published in 2017 (which is a big total for me), I branched out a bit on the indie side of publishing, and in my personal life, I found better ways of juggling my mom and wife duties with my author duties. But, I also saw my last book for the Harlequin Superromance line publish, and learned that the line will be closing in a couple of more months, and that has been an incredibly sad experience. I have loved working with my editors and the art team and my author friends...and that made 2017 a year of ups and downs, albeit with more in the up column than the down column.

In a way, I feel as if the growth I experienced last year isn't finished. I feel like there is still more to be done, as there will always be. There will always be more books to write, more mothering to be done, more date nights with RadioMan, more struggles with the juggling thing. But I want to continue growing and creating and I feel like, in this growth mindset, that the perfect word for 2018 is BLOOM. It feels like the perfect word because I'm still growing in this writing career, I'm still growing as a mother, as a wife, as a friend, but I'm also rooted. I know the stories that I want to tell. I know the daughter I want to raise. I know the woman I want to be, for RadioMan, for me, for my friends...and so, while I'm still growing, I also want to bloom. I want to bloom larger, with more color, with more strength.

There is a quote from William Wordsworth, one of my favorites, that goes, "How does the Meadow flower its bloom unfold? Because the lovely little flower is free down to its root, and in that freedom bold." And there is one more, from Masaru Emoto, "If you feel lost, disappointed, hesitant, or weak, return to yourself, to who you are, here and now and when you get there, you will discover yourself, like a lotus flower in full bloom, even in a muddy pond, beautiful and strong."

2017 was a year of growth and change and several unknowns and parts of it still feel a little muddled, and I'm still figuring out my exact path. But I can see the outline of the path, and I know where I am right now, and I know who I am, and so I'm going to continue the growth mindset of last year, and add a bit of color, and we'll see where it leads in 2018.

What about you? What are your goals (or resolutions, if you prefer) for the new year? Kristina Knighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13674920511835640874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12216237.post-81005944365270483932017-12-29T03:00:00.000-05:002017-12-29T03:00:51.462-05:00The Best of 2017 ~ @AuthorKristina Knight

It's time for another best of list...these are a few of my favorite movies/songs/TV shows/books. Chosen not because they hit a best sellers list or made a bajillion dollars on opening weekend...but because I've found myself thinking of them - often - even after finishing the book or movie or TV show or...fill in the blank.

Favorite Song: I'm taking a little license with this one because I first heard it just before Christmas last year, but since it didn't officially release until March of this year, I feel like it can be a 2017 song. It's Maren Morris, I Could Use a Love Song. I adore Maren's singing voice, I think her writing skills are amazing, and the hook of this one is so true - even for those of us not in the middle of a break up. Because who couldn't use a love song?

Favorite TV Show: Y'all know my adoration of all things Big Bang Theory (and that adoration hasn't waned) but we cut the cable cord this year, which threw me into streaming and Netflix/HBO/Hulu-first viewing. I loved Big Little Lies, and I finally watched all of Sex in the City, but the show that really grabbed me was Ozark. Maybe because I'm from that area, but I thought the writing of the show was very true to the area, the family dynamics were hair-raising, and it renewed my teenage crush on Jason Batemen. Who doesn't need a little teen-crush-revisiting thing now and then?

Favorite Movie: Can it be anything other than Wonder Woman? I've been a fan of Gal Gadot for a long time, and I loved everything about the movie - every aspect of it. It was (and is) everything.

Favorite Book: Okay, I'm fudging this one because there were two books that keep me coming back to them throughout the year. The first is a romance (could it be anything but?), but it's not La Nora (and y'all know how I love my NORA!)! It's Sarah MacLean's Day of the Duchess -- what I loved about this book was how Sarah turned a trope (alpha male) upside down and made the man go chasing after an alpha woman who wants nothing to do with him. We don't see enough of that in romance, and especially in historical romance. If you haven't picked up Sarah's book, definitely give it a try. The second book is a memoir, Nina Riggs' Bright Hour; it's a memoir of her fight against breast cancer, but it's also a book about the importance of the small moments in our lives, the ones we don't always notice. It's both uplifting and heartbreaking, filled with laughter and tears. It's a life-changer, and if you haven't read it, you need to pick it up.

Those are a few of my favorite things from 2017. What are your favorites?
It's release day! It's release day!!!! Christmas in a Small Town is LIVE - you can pick it up in print and e formats, from your favorite book retailer, so go forth!

I'm super excited for this book, it's my first 'official' Christmas-themed book, and it's my fifth Slippery Rock title...and it's my 7th Harlequin Suprromance...but it's also bittersweet, because this is my last Superromance title. I'm still so sad that Harlequin has decided to close this line of rich, deep, thoughtful books, but I'm also feeling blessed that I've been able to write these books for the past three years. It has seriously been one of the best times in my life - I've learned a LOT from my editors, and I think I'm a better writer after it all. And Christmas won't be my last book - I've got more coming for you guys, and I can't wait to share that news!

For now, here's a little bit about Christmas in a Small Town:

Running out on her wedding was the best decision ever!

A cheating fiancé sends Camden Harris fleeing to her grandparents’ home in Missouri. When her ex follows, determined to win her back, Camden makes a deal with neighbor Levi Walters: they’ll pretend to be in love and she’ll support his plan to buy her grandparents’ land.

The boy from her childhood has grown up into an impressive man. His charm, good looks and sweet gestures make it difficult for Camden to remember this is fake. And Levi’s kisses only confuse her more.
I talk about favorite things a lot - favorite foods, TV shows, movies, Christmas decorations...the list goes on. But we're in the middle of the Week Before Release Week - for my book Christmas in a Small Town, and that has me thinking about one specific set of favorites - my favorite Christmas songs, and yes, a few of them are from Christmas specials.

Y'all know by now that I adore Christmas music. I start listening to it sporadically around July and once Halloween is over, it's playing pretty much non-stop in my house and on my radio (SIRIUS/XM Holly is my favorite radio channel. Like, ever).

My favorite songs of the season vary by year and week and, sometimes, by the day. But as I'm writing this blog on Monday night, after spending most of the day watching bebe swim and looking out the window and wishing I was seeing lots of snow on the ground, these are the three that are giving me the most feels. So they're my (current) favorites:

Wham! "Last Christmas" -- this one has been re-done until it's almost overdone...and none of the new versions is as good as the first. At least, in my opinion. George Michael singing about holiday heartbreak is just...sighworthy. Here's the video:

Bing Crosby "White Christmas" -- I love the musical, which is probably why I really love this song. The melancholy of Bing's voice, though, just takes me away. And I'm right there with him, wishing for yesterday, hoping for...something, I'm not quite sure what. A close runner up to 'White Christmas' (naturally) is Judy Garland's version of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas". I just saw the movie 'Meet Me in St. Louis' a couple of years ago (I know, where have I been?!?), and that movie made me love this song even more. When she sings Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas to her sister, I just melt. I also love that these are two of the most-used Christmas Special songs - be those specials special holiday episodes of favorite shows or straight-up, music-only special events.

Josh Groban "Believe" -- I adore Josh Groban. I love the way his voice can hit the highs and just destroy those low notes, and I love that most of his music seems to have a message. Believe is my favorite of his songs, and that's partially because I also adore 'The Polar Express'. I think, especially these days, that the message of believing in and having faith in something that is bigger than we are is important. I also feel like part of the message of this song is about believing in ourselves, and who can't use a little more of that kind of belief?

Here's the video:

And then there is my favorite (at least this year) and it's from what is probably my favorite Christmas Special of my childhood: the Muppet's 12 Days of Christmas. I adored the Muppets when I was a kid, and their Christmas Specials were definitely must-see-TV. This one is filled with Fozzy being a little fuzzy on his part, and there is Piggy making a spectacle of herself and John Denver looking a little bit surprised through the whole thing. It's just perfect - as a Christmas Special and as a favorite song. Here's a little video (you knew I had to find one, didn't you?):

So, that's my list. A few of my favorite Christmas songs - and we didn't even get to the carols - "Silent Night" is a particular favorite, along with "The First Noel" and "O Holy Night". Kristina Knighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13674920511835640874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12216237.post-67761194155036326532017-11-22T14:00:00.000-05:002017-11-22T14:00:06.582-05:00Happy Thanksgiving!

We're in the last minute rush before Thanksgiving - our house is decorated for Christmas, because that's part of our Thanksgiving tradition, and RadioMan and I made our last minute trip to the grocery store this morning for a couple of things I swear were in the pantry last week, but are suddenly gone, and tomorrow morning the cooking and the baking will commence!

One more thing that is getting me in the holiday mood: the Hallmark Channel! They've started running all of their holiday original movies, and I just love them. I can't say I have a favorite, because that kind of depends on my mood, but I'll be bingeing on the Hallmark channel from now until...well, probably New Year's.

While I have you here, make sure you save the link below - I'm joining up with more than seventy author friends to give away free books this holiday weekend! Some are holiday themed, some aren't, but they're all great reads. The beauty part is you can start downloading while the turkey is still cooking tomorrow, and in the midst of all that cooking madness, maybe steal a few calming minutes to dive into a new read! Just click here to get to the download page, it goes live Thanksgiving Morning!

My book, The Saint's Devilish Deal, is part of the fun - so if you're looking to get out of the cold, definitely pick up this beach read that features former professional surfer Santiago Cruz and hotelier Esmerelda Quinn - he's making her a deal she should refuse...but what fun would that be?

"The Saint's Devilish Deal is a passionate re-union story; The characters sizzle at every meeting and their hot, biting dialogue leaves you wanting to read more. The Saint's Devilish Deal is definitely a recommended read." ~ Harlequin Junkie blog

Wherever you are this Thanksgiving, I hope you're surrounded by friends, family, and great food! Happy Thanksgiving!Kristina Knighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13674920511835640874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12216237.post-5471575495011526142017-10-17T08:23:00.002-04:002017-10-17T08:23:33.229-04:00#NewRelease: Falling For You Anthology

It's release week for Falling for You, and I/ so excited to share this particular collection with you readers! This anthology has had a few ups and downs - we authors (all from Harlequin's Superromance line) had envisioned it as a kind of spotlight we could shine on our line...and then news that Superromance would close next year came. That could have stopped this particular anthology in its tracks, but we all dug in and decided to shine the spotlight, anyway. Because Superromances are near and dear to our hears - so this anthology is a celebration of Superromance, of our series within the line, and hopefully a warm hug to our readers.

You know what else I love about it? The fall theme -- although I love all the seasons, fall is especially....well, special. The crisp air, the falling leaves, the slow-down of time. I just love it, and setting another Slippery Rock book during this season was so much fun! Plus, the anthology includes a little something special from a rock star author -- Brenda Novak. Gah! It's just too cool. Okay, enough of my blathering...let's get to the anthology!

bebe is getting to that age I've never wanted her to reach. The age when girls start to hurt one another, just because they can. You know the age I'm talking about - the this girl isn't as smart/pretty/skinny/talented/rich/funny age. I kind of feel like it's too early for this age - I mean, she's 8, not 18. Also, I kind of hoped she'd get to skip it - I mean, isn't that what we were taught during all those After School Specials, half-hour family-based sit-coms, and teen movies? That if we just began treating one another with compassion and empathy, we could stop this ridiculous cycle of wearing Girl B down simply because we're Girl A or C or J or, heck, Z?

Wasn't that what we were taught during the hours we spent watching Blossom navigate high school? Isn't that the message Brenda gave us when she told off that girl at her Beverly Hills slumber party...and then still invited her to stay, when those diet pills fell out of her bag?

Apparently, the TV and movie writers lied to us about the empathy thing because girls are still beating each other up over their differences. Or, maybe, the message we got was wrong. Maybe it isn't only that we need to treat one another with compassion and empathy (although, believe me, I think we do)...I think the message we missed is that we need to embrace and accept the things about use that are different. The things that make girls...well, girls.

Like Margaret, who decided at the end of her book that it was okay not to be Christian (like her mom)
or Jewish (like her dad). That it was okay to be her and to have questions that she can't answer quite yet....and when she did find the answer, it was an answer that was personal and specific to her, not her mother or father...not either set of grandparents. She became comfortable with who she was, outside of the expectations of her family and friends.

Margaret, who I like to believe rose from the dust of Jo March, led to other strong teenage girls and young adults...like the girls from Charmed, who didn't choose to be different, but still embraced the differences in themselves. And, you know, blew up a few demons and warlocks in the process.

In my experience, there are two camps in strong/witchy/woman TV-dom: those who land on the side of Buffy and those who land on the side of Charmed. Me? I'm a Charmed girl all the way not because of the wizarding or campy flavor, or the Buffy-lite-ness of it, but because of the journey that said women can get along, no matter what differences arise. Sure, Phoebe was jealous of Pru's power, and yes, Piper was always playing mediator, and the steady string of men in their lives was dizzying (except for Leo...Oh, my heart, Leo)...but under all of that was the sisterly bond between them. A bond that was never broken, not even when Piper tried to kill them all as the Windigo or when Phoebe's demon-spawn possessed her...or when Pru decided she'd had enough of always holding things together and let her wild side out at a biker bar.

And while they were embracing one another, they embraced the things about themselves that were different. Phoebe never lost her heart, not even when she fell in love with a demon who tried to kill them all. Pru never gave up on the strengths of her sisters, to the point that she sacrificed herself for them. Piper grew from the mediator to the protector - of her sisters, of their various charges, of her children. And when Paige came on the scene, and Billie after her, the dynamics continued to change, the sisterly bonds continued to evolve...and the women continued to embrace one another, and to explore the possibilities of sisterhood, friendship, and love.

I think they were able to embrace not only one another but themselves, because under all the demon hunting and wizard killing was that their power came from women. Pru and Piper and Phobe embraced the fact that their power, their knowledge, and their wisdom came from other women. Their mother and grandmother, and their mothers, and grandmothers, and aunts...

I think I'll find Charmed and maybe Blossom online to binge with bebe this summer. And while I'm at it, I think I'll introduce her to the actresses who played these strong girls and women - Mayim Bialik, who has an amazing new book about being a girl out, Alyssa Milano, who has become a political activist, Shannen Doherty, who is battling cancer as only a kick-ass-girl can, and Holly Marie Combs, who calls herself a 'Rebel with many Causes' on Twitter.

Because being a girl isn't just about being nice.

It's about being whoever the hell we feel like being. It's release day! It's release day! A new Slippery Rock book is in the wild, y'all, and I'm so excited about it! This book was so so so hard to write - the angst was through the roof! But, after 4 false starts, about 4 rounds of edits, and a few weeks to put some distance between Author Me and Reader Me, I'm so happy with how it turned out!

Here's a sneak peek inside the book:

Words failed him. So he tilted his head and took
her mouth with his.

Her lips were warm against his, soft and yielding.
He’d expected hard. Wary. The softness spurred him on. He dipped his tongue
inside her mouth, tasting her. Flames of attraction replaced the uneasy feeling
in his belly. Adam wrapped one arm around her slender waist and cupped her jaw
with his opposite hand. She trembled, but made no move to embrace him. She didn’t
draw away, though.

Adam pulled her body more firmly against his,
catching his fingers in the belt loop of her jeans. A little squeak escaped her
throat, then Jenny’s arms were wrapped around his neck, holding his mouth
against hers. Her tongue pushed into his mouth, as if she were as hungry for
him as he was for her. Her small fingers teased his nape. He wanted more.

Wanted to feel her body under him, not just
against him. Wanted to watch her head fall back against the pillows in their
big bed. He’d settle for a few more minutes like this, though, in the soft
grass with the sun sinking into the lake behind them.

Hey, WordWrangler Readers! I'm super-excited today because we're doing a cover reveal for a fab anthology that I'm lucky to be part of! It's called Falling for You, and it will be out this fall from a group of Harlequin Superromance authors. The best part? These novellas will be part of our on-going series - so for me, that means you get another Slippery Rock book!

My book in the set is called Outsider in a Small Town and features Aiden (Adam's twin, who has been gone from Slippery Rock for a long time) and newcomer Julia Colson, who runs a wedding/clothing boutique.
This is the cover - don't you just love it? I want to know what they're laughing about ... and the colors of the leaves - it's just perfectly fall, don't you think? The anthology is available for pre-order now, and will go on sale October 17, 2017.
Hey, readers! I'm super-excited because it's a brand new month and I've got a brand new book out for you! It's the second in my new Slippery Rock series, and features interim town sheriff, James Calhoun and Mara Tyler, the absentee sister from Tyler Orchard!

One of the themes throughout the Slippery Rock series is home. Home can be a million different things to a million
different people, but I think what it holds in common for all of us is a
feeling of safety. Of belonging.

Home is something that Mara has been missing since leaving Slippery Rock in a misguided attempt to protect James ten years before; what is surprising to Mara is that she's missed home at all. Because, although she does love her family, she's always felt a little out of place in Slippery Rock. For a while, she and James had a secret affair, and when things got a little too hot for Mara to handle, she ran. Now, though, a tornado has torn the town apart and her family needs her...and she needs her family, too. There's just one little problem: when she ran from James the first time, she didn't know she was pregnant...and now, she's going to tell him.

My family's special project for this new series is continuing with the release of Rebel in a Small Town, too. We’re donating a portion of the proceeds from the Slippery Rock series toward providing Sweet Cases from TogetherWeRise to foster children.
Most children going in to foster care have nothing but the clothes on their
backs. Sweet Cases are duffel bags given to children coming in to care, and
once given, the bags remain with that child, giving them a sense of home and,
hopefully, a sense that they aren't alone. Each duffel includes a warm blanket,
a teddy bear, hygiene kit, and art supplies.

Here's a peek at their first kiss:

James cupped his hands around her neck, pulling her to him.
Mara squeaked as he laid his lips on hers, silencing her before she could say,
for the fifteenth time, that she could be everything for the little boy in the
picture. That James could walk away and never feel guilty about it. As if that
would ever happen.

Her mouth was soft against his, and she opened to him, her
tongue tangling with his. She tasted like banana, and her hair was silky
against the back of his hand. James wrapped the length around his fist, holding
her in place so that his mouth could plunder hers. Mara wrapped her arms around
his neck in response, rising on tiptoe and slanting her head.

This they could do and it would be simple and easy. Just
like it had been right up until Nashville. Kissing Mara was the easiest thing in
the world for James. It was coming home while also having an adventure—familiar
but exciting at the same time.

She made a low sound in her throat, pressing her body
against his. Her breasts were fuller than he remembered. He reached to cup her
rear with his hand. Her hips were rounder, sexier. She wove her fingers through
the short hair at the back of his head, sending another shiver of awareness
through his body. Then she pushed her hips against his.

God, he knew what she would feel like beneath him. He knew
what to do to make that low sound come from her throat. How to kiss her so that
she was weak with wanting. He knew that she liked to be ravished, but that she
liked to do the ravishing from time to time, too.

And she wasn’t serious about him. Didn’t want him in her
life. Was giving him an out to continue on with the life that had been planned
for him since the day he was born.

He wanted that familiar, planned-out life.

James broke the kiss and rested his forehead against hers

He also wanted the unfamiliar, unplanned life that came with
accepting responsibility for the baby they made in Nashville.

James Calhoun has never been able to resist Mara Tyler, or her knack for mischief. Her reputation as a reckless teenager drove Mara from their hometown. So Slippery Rock is the last place James ever expected to see her, and Mara's timing couldn't be worse. With the upcoming election for sheriff, she threatens the squeaky-clean image James needs to win. Because Mara has brought with her the result of their steamy affair: his two-year-old son, Zeke. After the initial shock, James is determined to have both his family and career. He just needs to convince Mara that her home is where it's always been. With him.

For the past couple of years, I've been on a bit of an organization kick. I'm blogger - probably too many times - about my love for my Happy Planner, and talked about goal setting, and shared my motivation/goal-inspired Words of the Year.

This year, I'm adding to that with something totally new - a reader's journal. I'm doing a reader challenge - actually 2 - this year. The first is a 50 books in 50 weeks challenge I'm behind and we're not even halfway through the year...but I have hopes I'll catch up. Why a 50 book challenge? It sounded like fun and, well, why not give it a go? But apparently, when I decide to do something now I go all out - because I'm not just doing the 50 book challenge, I'm doing a read/watch challenge. In which I read a book and watch a movie/documentary/tv show all with the same theme -- themes like 'New Beginnings' and 'Retro' and 'Unusual'. That challenge I'm keeping up with, possibly because it's one theme per month, believe it if it was a theme a week, I'd be so far behind. Anywho, with these reading challenges, I decided I didn't only want to read, I wanted to think about what I was reading - what I liked/didn't like, how what I'm reading is changing my thoughts about...oh, everything and anything. A journal is what I needed, but I needed a journal that wasn't just blank or I knew I wouldn't use it. Or that it would wind up with a simple listing of book titles and authors, and I wanted more than that.

I found this little goodie at BooksAMillion, thumbed through it a little and realized this is exactly what I was looking for - a reader's journal with just enough direction. There is a place for the title and author (naturally) along with follow-up
books (assuming it's a series book) or just more books by that author that seem interesting. But, the journal also prompts for favorite quotes from the books, plot things I liked/didn't, and character things I liked/didn't.

But what I like best about this journal is the pictures. Samantha Hahn is the journal 'author' and along with the journaling part, she's included her watercolors of famous literary women - Wendy from the Peter Pan books, Emma Bovary, Hester Prynne, Ophelia, and even little Mary Lennox from "The Secret Garden". There is also a quote from each book (y'all know how I love a favorite quote)...and I'm already considering re-reading a few of these favorites as the year goes on.

I'm excited to start both reading challenges, but now I'm just as excited to start my very first reader's journal...I can't wait for all the adventures I'll find between the pages this year.Kristina Knighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13674920511835640874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12216237.post-57001146200234715872017-06-01T03:00:00.000-04:002017-06-01T03:00:36.954-04:00It's a Mega-Giveaway!

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">It's release day! It's release day! Slippery Rock is finally open for business - and the first book, Famous in a Small Town, is on store shelves! I am so excited for y'all to read these books, to get involved in Slippery Rock, and get to know the characters I've fallen a little bit in love with. It all starts with Savannah and Collin. Here's the blurb:
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Lifestyles of the small-town famous
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Forced to leave Nashville after a scandal, Savannah Walters has come home to Slippery Rock, Missouri, with a bruised ego and her singing career in jeopardy. As if that isn't humiliating enough, on her way into town she's rescued by her swoon-worthy childhood crush, Collin Tyler.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">His hands are full running the family orchard and dealing with his delinquent teen sister, so Collin doesn't need to get involved with someone as fiery and unpredictable as Savannah. But the intense attraction between them can't be denied. And when disaster strikes, they'll both be surprised by who's still standing when the dust settles.
In 'Famous', Savannah was a foster child who was adopted at the age of 7 by the Walters family; she was dirty, had ill-fitting clothes and nothing else. The trauma in her early life causes her to act out, even into her adult years...right up until the moment she decides to come home. The trauma she faced in the book is so similar to the trauma that foster children face every day, all over the United States.

Most children going in to foster care have nothing but the clothes on their backs. Sweet Cases are duffel bags given to children coming in to care, and once given, the bags remain with that child, giving them a sense of home and, hopefully, a sense that they aren't alone. Each duffel includes a warm blanket, a teddy bear, hygiene kit, and art supplies.

I hope you all enjoy Savannah and Collin's story...happy reading!Kristina Knighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13674920511835640874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12216237.post-65163452828089908522017-04-26T03:00:00.000-04:002017-04-26T03:00:05.359-04:00#WriterWednesday: Author Self-Care

*originally posted on The WordWranglers Blog*

A writer friend posted something on social media over the weekend that made me sad. She'd had a terrible review posted of her latest book (a review I found to be quite unfair and not just because she's my friend, but because this particular review offered nothing beyond the reviewers hatred for the subject matter..and put that hatred onto the author). I think we can all identify with the feeling of helplessness that comes with bad reviews, whether they come with constructive criticism or just angry 'I hate you' type words...helplessness because the book is out there. It's been published. there isn't anything we can do about the fact that not everyone will like our books.

Her post got me thinking, though, about self-care, so I thought I'd share a few things that I think are helpful in these kinds of situations.

Writing is solitary, so take time to not be solitary. Most of my day is spent with a computer. Sure, there is social media, but it's filled with strife lately...and there is email, but an emailed 'atta girl' isn't the same as a hug or a slap on the shoulder. So take time to cultivate real-world friendships - those with other writers and those with non-writers. Go to lunch, have coffee, or just go for a walk. Taking some of the aloneness out of writing helps to take some of the sting out of those moments when things aren't going the way we want them to go.

Know the difference between writer's block, anxiety and depression. Having writer's block isn't the same as having a depressive episode or being anxious. Although being depressed or anxious about something can block your writing. Here's the thing: you can write through writer's block. You can't write your way out of depression or anxiety; those things require therapy, a doctor...So take steps to talk to someone who can help deal with those dark places. Depression is a real thing, and it should be treated as such.

Try not to read reviews. I know, this is so much easier said than done. But if you're an author, don't go on Goodreads or B&N or Amazon multiple times a day to see who is saying what about your books. We're human. There could be 574 amazing, great, 5-stars, loved everything about this book reviews...but that 1 dissenter will be the one voice that stays in our heads for weeks on end. That creeps up when a scene is hard to write, or that whispers in our heads when that proposal is due. So don't go there. Don't torture yourself. But you need review quotes for social media or ad campaigns --- ask a trusted friend to check the reviews. Have them copy and paste a few stellar comments into a document and pull quotes from there. And, if you must, go yourself, but promise me - PINKIE PROMISE - that the last thing you read on that review page will be something that glows with positivity.

Turn off the Internet. Here's the thing: as connected as the Internet makes us feel - and as solitary writer creatures, we do crave that feeling of connection - the Internet also steals our time. It sucks us into the lives of people who do not care about us, and who exist to get in our heads to cause pain. So turn it off because those people who are demanding that you pay attention to their drama or who want something from you or are otherwise making you feel 'less than'...do not matter. The people who matter are your friends -- and you know the difference between friends and frenemies, even the online versions -- your family, your editor, your agent. The rest? Well, they can be fun occasionally, but they can also pull you away from what you need to do --- write the next book.

Your body and your mind are temples. Exercise. Eat real food. Drink water. Understand that some days - no matter how dedicated you are - significant writing just isn't going to happen, and that is okay. Some days the only writing that happens will be thoughts about what needs to be written. That is okay. When those days happen - and I know when they're coming, you can start to recognize the signs, too - set up that lunch with a good friend, take an afternoon for a mani/pedi, take an extra long walk along a nature trail...Make those days count because while you're enjoying the hibachi grill at lunch or the relaxation of the spa or the rejuvenation of nature...the story will still be working. Some of my best writing comes in the day after I couldn't write a grocery list.

Comparison is the thief of joy. Theodore Roosevelt is quoted as saying this...I've heard it from a thousand other people - writers, ministers, teachers. Comparison doesn't offer anything productive, it only tells us what we're doing wrong...but the thing is, no two people will have the same journey. Not anywhere, and that goes for writers or teachers or plumbers. Comparing ourselves to a New York Times bestselling author isn't helpful. Convincing ourselves that because we've sold 500 more books than someone who has sold only 50 is only self-serving, and sets us up as judgmental, passive-aggressive haters...and that isn't helpful. Write the best books you can, be the best friend/daughter/spouse/significant other that you can be. The rest...it's gravy.Kristina Knighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13674920511835640874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12216237.post-75033265062556375082017-04-22T15:54:00.001-04:002017-04-22T15:54:27.086-04:00Kristina's Summer PlansThe countdown is on - but not just for summer this time, although I can't express with words just how excited I am for summer to get here. It's been especially gray and dreary in my part of the world (although we skipped most of the ultra-cold snaps this winter), so now that the weather is finally warming up, it's nice to see the skies so blue and the clouds floating by. Even the rain isn't that bad because it brings with it greener grass and mud puddles to stomp in. Not that I stomp in mud puddles. That would be childish.

I'm looking forward to summer for a couple of other reasons, too: conferences and book releases!

In May my new series with Harlequin Superromance starts, and I can't wait to share these books with you guys. All 5 (4 full length and 1 novella) are set in a small lake town in Missouri, and they star 5 members of the state's high school football championship team. Collin, James, Levi, and twins Adam and Aiden have captured my heart...and so have Savannah (Levi's sister and Collin's girl), Mara (Collin's sister and James' girl), Jenny (Adam's estranged wife), Camden (a newcomer to Slippery Rock who falls for Levi), and Becca (another newcomer, although not quite as recent, who falls for Aiden).

Another new thing that's happening this summer: I'm attending 2 conferences! I'll be one of the authors at Lori Foster's Reader-Author Get Together in June (I'm an RAGT first-timer, so come find me if you're there...I don't want to be lonely!), and I'll be at the RWA conference in July. I'll be signing copies of my Slippery Rock books at both conferences and I'll have some fun swag, too -- like these little flash drives that will have a sampling of Famous in a Small Town on them!

Aren't they cute? And they have 8 Gigs of memory so you can store all kinds of things on them...so, here's my pitch to you authors: if you're looking for something special to use as conference swag, take a look at the different options they have. The prices are great, and I just love these little book-shaped custom or wholesale memory drives.

One more thing I'm looking forward to this summer: Having the kiddo home! (remind me I said this around July, when she's bored of vacation, okay?) We'll spend most of the summer lazing in the pool, but we also have a couple of quilting projects on tap, and she's excited about the summer reading program at the library...and 3rd grade has been rough on her, so it will be nice to really focus our energies on helping her return to bebe-normal, if you know what I mean!

I saw this quote by Judy Blume recently and it struck me...that one of the greatest gifts my parents ever gave me was a love of books.

Growing up I classified myself a middle class, but looking back we were probably more like lower-middle class. Not that that matters, really. We had plenty of food to eat, clothes to wear and a home to live in. My siblings and I argued, our parents argued. It was a normal upbringing. I have favorite memories with each of my siblings, but my most vibrant memories are of sitting in our parlor (we lived in an old Victorian house in the country) in an over-stuffed chair with a velveteen finish. Legs slung over one arm, back resting against the other and a book in my hand.

The books changed over the years. One of the first books I remember reading alone is In a People House. I graduated from single-sentence books fairly quickly and moved on to chapter books like Ramona Quimby, Age 8 or Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. I loved those books. I liked the adventures that kids were having and I couldn't help wondering if I would have more adventures if we lived in a huge city like New York or Chicago instead of our small town in Missouri.

Because my brother was reading it, I decided to try out The Chronicles of Narnia when I was about 9. I hated it. I didn't understand a lot of what the books were about (I got the adventure, but the sub-text was lost on me), but I diligently sat in my reading chair and struggled through books 1-3 before giving up. I would take aim at them later on and love them. Still do.

And then, around age 10, I discovered Dear Mr. Henshaw. Oh, how I loved that book. I think I checked it out of the school library about six times when I was in 4th grade. It was (also) a little above my reading level, but I didn't care. I liked how this boy would write to his favorite author and his favorite author would (sometimes) write back.

I wondered if I should write to my favorite author, which brought on about a week of debating the merits of Beverly Cleary vs. Judy Blume. In the end I decided I couldn't choose and I wrote two incredibly over the top letters to both of the authors about how they'd changed my life. At the age of 9. I'm positive they were impressed with my devotion to them and my wielding of the literary pen.

I've tried out every genre since those childhood days in my favorite chair and I can say that I love them all. But romance is the genre of my choice, both as a reader and as a writer and I think those early reading days are part of the reason. Because whether I was reading about a kid who hated his younger brother or living through the trials of school bullying, I was also finding a happy ending. Not always the love-kisses-sex happy endings of romance novels, but a sense of completion and acceptance that I equate with happiness.

And I'm also grateful to my parents who put limits on how much television we watched (of course, we found ways around their rules) and encouraged us to adventure through books...

Here's what a few reviewers are saying about the book:

OneClickAddict Blog: 5 stars for What the Bachelor Gets ~ "This was my first book by Kristina Knight but it certainly won't be the last. She had me hooked in just a few short chapters, made me fall in love with her characters and stay glued to my seat until the very last page.... Loved Callie, she's strong and self sufficient, not happy about getting help from a friend. And Gage, not a shark or playboy as some would make him out to be, he's got a heart of gold and a pocket full of cash that gets him what he wants in business. I read this one in one sitting, it will suck you in and keep you turning the pages til the end!"
Jennifer from The Power of 3 Readers gives What the Heiress Wants 5 stars ~ " I enjoyed this sweet read a lot! This story was super easy to get reeled into. The character development is good, with a sweet, and well written storyline that flows smoothly. Kristina Knight's easy writing style kept my attention throughout the whole story, and I read it in one sitting. A couple of twists made for good shocking moments... Bottom line, I am excited to read more about these sexy brothers in the near future."
About the Billionaire Cowboys Trilogy:

The second bestselling series from Kristina Knight marries two consistently popular romance trends: billionaires and cowboys.

Hot Las Vegas nights get even steamier for these three powerful, wealthy businessmen with cowboy roots and the strong, independent women who fall for them. What happens in Vegas certainly won’t stay there as these successful tycoons win at love.

What the Bachelor Gets: Local property developer and sexy Vegas bachelor Gage Reeves is bombarded with a stream of showgirls, local socialites, and entertainers who all expect something from him. All Gage wants is to help an old high school friend, Callie Holliday, make a go of her new spa in his high-end retail complex. But their wheeling and dealing soon turns from strictly professional to decidedly personal.

What the Heiress Wants: Denver publishing heiress Miranda Clayton is tired of society parties and shopping, but her tycoon father refuses to take her seriously. Her solution? Beat him at his own game by going to work for his top competitor, Connor Reeves. Connor isn’t fooled by Miranda’s act for a second. He knows exactly who she is; the question is what does the lady want?

What the Gambler Risks: Twenty-something ice queen Sabrina York enjoys fame and fortune writing self-help books for a largely female audience—but she could do without her reputation as the Oldest Living (Supposed) Virgin in Vegas. Jase Reeves knows Sabrina’s not nearly as cold as she would like people to think. He didn’t intend to have a one-night stand with the Vegas Virgin, but he can’t get her out of his head. Now Sabrina has one goal: stay away from the handsome gambler before he melts her career—and her heart.

Here we are at another January...and I can't quite believe it. It seems like we were just kicking off 2016, doesn't it? The calendar definitely says January and 2017, though, so that means it's time to come up with another plan for another year, and another word to bring it all together.

I know this will shock some of you, but I gave up on making a list of resolutions a few years back. It was just too much, and kind of demoralizing to realize that within a week or so all those great plans were up in smoke...Also, I like the idea that we can start a new passion/goal/interest at any time...not just in January.

I adopted the Word For The Year plan, in which I pick a word that I want to focus on in my home and work and personal life, a couple of years ago. Last year, that word was Focus, and I think I did a pretty good job of staying focused...you know, for the most part. I've also chosen words like Enjoy or Think in the past.

Those words were more geared toward my family/personal life, and this year I wanted to choose a word that kind of hits for both work and play.

So I've chosen GROW, for several reasons.

First, I want to grow as a person. If the 2016 election season taught us anything it is that the art of tolerance is a dying art. I want to grow in my tolerance and understanding of others...I think the best way to do that is to step outside my comfort zone of friends and family by welcoming new people into our little world. I (and RadioMan and bebe) will be looking for ways to reach out to new people in the coming year.

And, I want to grow my writing career. I absolutely love being a hybrid author, and I love the stories that I'm writing, but I want to meet new readers. I want to grow my career to the next level...and I think I'm starting in a good place because, having just cried my way through the edit phase of the first book in my Slippery Rock quad (coming out later this year) and doing a little sniffling as I finish up the draft of book 3, my hope is that this series resonates with not only my current readers, but with readers who might pick up one of these books.

Read/Watch Challenge from RoniLoren

Also, I'm a fairly eclectic reader, but I've been in a kind of holding pattern with reading for a couple of years, and I want to delve into some new types of stories (if anyone has suggestions, leave me a comment!). To that end, I'm doing a read/watch challenge with author Roni Loren - she's chosen a theme for each month of the year, and the challenge is to read a book and watch a movie that fits with that theme in some way. I'm a little intimidated already with some of the themes, but I'm excited to stretch my reader wings a little with it. I've added a page to my planner with the monthly themes, and I'll list the books/movies that I watch as the year goes on...along with my thoughts on each.
Happy release week, readers! Today we're diving right in to What the Gambler Risks, the third book in my Billionaire Cowboys trilogy - happy reading!

Excerpt from What the Gambler Risks:

“One more hand. Winner buys the loser a drink?”
She tilted her water bottle toward him. “I already have a drink.”
Jase snickered but was careful to keep the sound light and friendly. “That’s not a drink.” He lifted his glass of soda water with lime to his mouth. Most people wouldn’t consider the contents of his glass a real drink, either, but he rarely drank when he played. Alcohol and cards did not mix well in Jase’s opinion. “What do you have to lose?” he pressed.
“We’ll see,” she said, not meeting his gaze directly, and he was 75 percent positive she was on her way to a yes.
The dealer switched decks and then dealt the cards. Jase had random cards in his hands, but he didn’t care. The woman studied her hand, one manicured nail tapping against the cards. Considering.
“Twenty,” she said, throwing a chip on the table.
“Raise to forty,” Jase said, tossing two chips on the table. The best plan of attack when the cards in his hand were useless was to make her think he held something amazing. He didn’t bluff in real card games, but despite her two wins, he didn’t peg this woman as a true card player. If she were a regular player, she wouldn’t be so transparent about what she held in her hands.
The woman blinked, and her teeth began nibbling at her lower lip.
“Are you in?” he asked, a bit more forcefully than was necessary.
Her finger tapped faster against the cards in her hand. “I’ll take three,” she said and slid three cards to the dealer.
As soon as her new cards were in her hands, Jase said, “I’ll stand.” And he stacked his worthless cards with all the careless confidence he used in high-stakes games around the globe. The kind of confidence that made big-time, big-money gamblers think twice about going against him in the second betting round.
The woman circled her index finger around her remaining green chip, considering her options. Call, take the gamble, lose, and have a drink with him. Of course, it would take a truly pitiful hand to lose to what he held. She could fold and have a drink with him. She could also call his bluff and, depending on the cards in her own hand, win. He didn’t like the thought of her winning, but if her winning at the table landed the two of them at the bar, was it really a loss for him?
“Call,” she said, and Jase felt a wave of admiration for his opponent. Which was not good, because if she was calling she had to have something in her hand, and he had a big, fat zero. Which meant she would win. Jase didn’t like to lose, especially at poker, not even when it was a friendly game instead of a high-stakes match with thousands of dollars to lose.
She laid down her cards: three queens, a two, and a ten.
“Three of a kind. Nice.”
“I was hoping for a full house.”
“I was hoping you’d fold, so I could buy you that drink,” he said and laid his cards—all four suits, random order—on the table.
“Nice bluff, I almost folded.”
“If it had been a better bluff, you would have folded.” He watched her for a moment across the table. “Now you have to buy me the drink; all in all, not a bad night at the table.”
The woman pushed back from the table, pulling the pot in the middle to her side. Jase pocketed the chips he had left in his stack. “I never agreed to that bed,” she said, and her hands stilled over the chips. Her gaze flicked to his, and despite the dim light, he saw the flush that crept over her cheeks.
“And here I thought we were just talking about a drink. I have to tell you, I’m not the kind of guy to go off to a strange woman’s hotel room after a lousy hand of poker,” he said with mock outrage.

“Bet. I meant bet.”
Heya, readers! It's release day and I'm so excited! This week the final Billionaire Cowboys book hits your cyber shelves; it features gambler Jase and risk-avoider Sabrina. Here's a peek into what's in store:

Best-selling author Kristina Knight's Billionaire Cowboys are back for one final ride with this seductive story of long-simmering feelings and hot Vegas nights.

Twenty-something ice queen Sabrina Smith enjoys the fame and fortune she's found writing self-help books for a largely female audience. Her readers hang on every word of how the Vegas Virgin - an unflattering and inaccurate moniker given to her by a local shock jock - juggles dating, working, and friendships in Sin City.

And that's why Jase Reeves spells trouble.

Jase knows Sabrina's secret - that she's not nearly as cold as she would like people to think - and he's through keeping it. He didn't intend to have a one-night stand with the Vegas Virgin, but now he can't get her out of his head. And he can't keep living this lie.

With Jase back at the tables in Vegas, Sabrina has one goal: stay away from the handsome gambler before he melts her career - and her heart.

And here's what some early readers (and three of your favorite authors) are saying about the series:

"Kristina Knight gets me hooked- What a great start to a sexy new series! I felt right at home with these characters. Gage and Callie (What the Bachelor Gets) kept me on my toes!" ~ USA Today Bestselling Author Nikki Lynn Barrett

"In What the Heiress Wants, Kristina Knight writes a riveting story of corporate espionage and spying with delightful characters you find yourself rooting for and falling in love with." ~ Sharon Cullen, USA Today Bestselling Author

"Kristina Knight does it again! If you like relatable characters that you fall in love with from page one, amazing sexual tension, a story line that keeps you turning the pages, and snappy dialogue then you'll love What the Gambler Risks. Ms. Knight is one of my favorite authors and her stories never disappoint, making it hard for me to pick a favorite from all her titles. If you haven't read one of her books, you definitely need to." ~ Christine Warner - author of The Friends First series with Entangled Publishing
Here's an exclusive excerpt from What a Texas Girl Needs:

“I’ll take the bill, Vern,” she said, holding out her hand. It was about time she started paying her own way. One tank of gas wouldn’t exactly repay the family, but it was a start. Added bonus, paying her own bills might help overhaul the character she’d found so seriously lacking in the last few months.

“It’s easier for ol’ Mitch to keep his records if I just add it to the ranch total.”

“I’m not a ranch employee. This isn’t a ranch vehicle. I’ll take the bill.” Vanessa couldn’t remember ever paying for a tank of gas here. Come to think of it, unless she was trying to impress someone, she had rarely paid for anything to this point in her life.

Vern handed her the receipt. Fifty bucks? Holy crap, how much did gas cost? Stupid question, Van, obviously it costs fifty dollars. She reached into her bag for her credit card and then remembered that was part and parcel of the Witte upbringing. Paying with Grandfather’s credit card? Not character building. She pawed through the baby blue Coach bag but only came up with two twenties and some loose change.

Damn.

“Just charge it to the ranch, Vern.” Mat Barnes’s voice echoed under the station’s overhang, chilling Vanessa. “The Double Diamond will cover it.” We always cover her bills, his tone implied.

Vanessa squeezed her eyes closed and swallowed. Her fingers closed over another bill. Please let it be a twenty. Or a ten. She opened her eyes.

Three twenties. Triumph!

“I’ve got it Mr. Barnes, thank you,” she said, chilling her voice as she handed the cash to Vern. He looked from Mat to Vanessa, obviously confused over what was going on between them. Vanessa held his gaze for a moment. Vern took the cash and hurried inside.

“I think we’re past the ‘Mr. Barnes’ stage, don’t you?” Mat watched her from beneath the tipped-low brim on his cowboy hat, his coal-black eyes boring straight to her soul. Yes, they were past the Mr. or Miss stage, technically, but not calling him Mat helped her keep her distance.

The way her heart raced at the mere sight of him she desperately needed that space.

She looked away, crossing her arms over her chest. Her gaze caught on the frayed edge of his jeans—which were worn in all the right places, she noted—and today’s tee, tight across his shoulders, read, ‘Chicks Dig Scars’ over his well-muscled chest.

Who was she kidding? Calling him Mr. Barnes didn’t keep her from noticing just how delectable Mat was. Nothing could do that. Not in broad daylight. Certainly not the twinkling fairy lights during Kathleen’s wedding reception.

“I don’t think a night spent in my grandfather’s hayloft makes us best buddies,” she said, hoping against hope he would just leave her alone.

“Ahh, but what we did in that hayloft is another matter.” He lounged against the side of her Porsche as if he might stay there forever.

And now, for a peek at each of the books in the bundle:

The bonds of love are truly tested for six couples in these enthralling romances featuring secret babies and surprise pregnancies. Your heart will ache in all the right ways as baby makes three for these winning duos.

What a Texas Girl Needs: Matias Barnes knows all about society women like Vanessa Witte. It's part of the reason he left his wealthy family behind and took a job on a ranch. But while Mat knows she's so not right for him, can he resist her charms long enough to really let her go? The clock is winding down to the moment when Vanessa's secret will force her to flee and take away his choice forever.

Marrying the Wrong Man: Morgan Parrish's dad planned her marriage to a man destined to be president of the United States, but she fell in love with the town drunk's son, got pregnant, and fled. Now she's back and waitressing at the bistro Charlie Cramer manages. If they give in to the attraction and screw things up again, their daughter will deal with the fallout - or they just might get that American dream after all.

The Rebel's Own: In high school, a cruel prank left shy Kennedy Bailey pregnant and alone. Now grown-up and gorgeous, she won't let anything stop her from saving her five-year-old son's life when he's diagnosed with leukemia. Even if it means confronting his father, NFL quarterback Ryan Carville, who just wants a second chance to show he's a man worth loving.

A Taste of Honey: Charli Honey knew it was a bad decision to end up in her boss's bed, and to make matters worse, now she's pregnant. William Knight is happy to do the right thing, but can she live with a man who doesn't love her? Or can William convince her a change of heart is not only possible, it's real?

Sutherland's Pride: Pride Donovan's former lover, Flynn Sutherland, does not recognize her little boy as his when she returns to their Texas Gulf Coast town, but he definitely wants their relationship back. Can their second chance withstand the bombshell she's about to drop into his life?
Her Soldier's Touch: When U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Colten Taylor returns briefly to Phoenix to bury his brother, he's shocked to see Rachel Madison waiting for him at the airport. He regrets the morning he walked away from her; coming from an abusive home taught Colt to put limits on all his relationships. But now that she has his son in tow, will he keep running?Kristina Knighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13674920511835640874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12216237.post-64110756249254049042016-05-24T23:23:00.001-04:002016-05-24T23:23:32.460-04:00#NewRelease: What the Heiress Wants + A Sale

It's release week again, WordWranglers! The second book in my Billionaire Cowboys trilogy (Connor and Miranda's story) released on Monday!! That's the cover over there. Isn't is a little bit sexy and dangerous and ... pretty? I love it because it says Las Vegas to me...and you guys know my love for Vegas!

The trilogy is set in Las Vegas (naturally), and the characters split time fairly equally between the Rocking R (the brother's ranch) and their downtown Las Vegas businesses.

And here's a fun thing: to celebrate the release of book 2, you can pick up the first book, What the Bachelor Gets, for only 99 cents for a limited time!
Here's a little peek into What the Heiress Wants:

She tidied the break room and rinsed out the coffee pot. She went to her office and filed her copies of the new designs. She flicked off the light. Put her fingers to her lips.

She could still feel him against her. The firmness of his mouth, the feel of his tongue in her mouth. How her breasts had flattened against his chest, and the way the hair at his nape tickled her fingers. At least twenty times since last night, she had pushed thoughts of the kiss away, and they kept coming back.
It will fade. The memories will fade with time.
It had only been one day. A volatile, dramatic day. And, really, her reaction to that first kiss was likely rolled into his asking her to help with the redesign. His acceptance of the new health plan. For the first time, someone was taking her ideas seriously. That someone had kissed her. It was all related.
Wasn’t it?
Through the thin pane of glass in her office door, she could see Connor’s closed door. He would still be in there, working. There was one way to figure out if her reaction to his kiss was based on physical chemistry or on his listening to her ideas and treating her as an equal.
Miranda swallowed. This was a very bad idea.
She needed to know.
Before she could talk herself out of it, Miranda marched across the hall and opened Connor’s door. He still sat at his desk, tapping away at the keyboard. She didn’t give him time to react. Miranda walked across the room, turned his chair to face her, and put her hands on either side of his beautiful face. His blue eyes widened in surprise, and his pupils dilated. Her palms tingled.
And she kissed him. His lips were firm against hers, but for a split second he only sat there, as if stunned. Then his arms wound around her waist, and he pulled her down to him. Chest to chest, sitting on Connor’s lap, Miranda sank deeper into the kiss. She put her arms around his neck. He traced the line of her jaw with the tips of his fingers.
Miranda opened her mouth to him, and Connor pushed his tongue inside. He tasted like pizza and soda, and Miranda thought it was the headiest combination she might ever experience. She leaned her head back, and his mouth found the sensitive spot beneath her chin as his hands began playing along her ribs the way they had played against the keyboard a few minutes before.
Sensations zinged along her nerve endings. Connor’s hands at her ribs. His mouth on her throat. She could feel the bulge of his erection beside her hip. It was a powerful feeling, knowing she had this effect on him.
The phone rang, and the sound was like a bucket of icy water from Lake Mead being thrown over her head. They were at work. He was her boss. He controlled her employment, her salary, nearly every aspect of her life in Las Vegas. This was inappropriate on so many levels.
Miranda pulled back, putting a few scant inches of space between them. “This wasn’t a good idea.”
“It certainly wasn’t a bad one.”
“No.” She shook her head and motioned her hands between them. “I thought maybe my reaction last night was a combination of you validating my ideas and the late night dinner.”
“It’s called chemistry.”
She couldn’t have this conversation still sitting on his lap. Still feeling his hardness against her hip. Miranda stood and then smoothed her hands along her skirt. “Regardless …” She backed away until she felt the doorknob at the small of her back. “You said it was my decision. And my decision is that this shouldn’t happen again. I’m sorry.”
Excerpt from Protecting the Quarterback:

“Jonas.” Her quiet voice snapped him back to the parking lot. “Why don’t you not take me home?”
His stomach muscles tightened as the words slipped from her lips in that slow drawl.
“Are you sure?”
She nodded, and he knew he wouldn’t take her home, not just yet.
When he was behind the wheel, Brooks took his hand in hers and turned her face to watch the buildings passing by. The sun was beginning to set when he pulled into the parking lot of the condo where he’d spent the first few years of his contract with the team. Several other players lived there during the season, but the place was mostly a ghost town now. He parked in his designated spot and then somehow they were inside the glass-and-chrome decorated living room.
Memorabilia lined the walls and a low, white couch sat behind a glass-topped coffee table. He cringed. It was too perfect. Too planned out.
Too much like the other times he’d brought a woman here. Maybe he should have taken her to a hotel. There was still time, he could—
“Wow,” she said, drawing her index finger over the smooth surface of a table lined with photographs of him during games or at press conferences. God, he’d been such a schmuck with the decorating of this place. “This is not what I expected.”
“My interior designer has very specific tastes,” he said lamely. Definitely, definitely should have taken her anywhere but this condo.
She presented herself as the girl next door, but there was a little bit of siren in her now, which made his heartbeat kick up a notch. Brooks made her way around the room and he couldn’t take his eyes off her as she moved. Slowly and sinuously. Taking in everything around her. This was a different Brooks than the woman he thought he’d known over the past week. That woman was businesslike most of the time. The moments she let her guard down, like when she talked to the kids without that microphone in tow, though, she was irresistible. Impossible not to watch or wonder about. It was one of those moments that made him ask her out for dinner. That dinner had led them here.
Jonas met her at the kitchen counter, put his hands on her hips and turned her to face him.
“It was a date,” he said and bent his head so he could taste her lips. She was sweet, as he’d imagined so many times over the past few days. She wound her arms around his neck and slanted her mouth, giving him better access to the sweetness that was Brooks. He squeezed his hands around her waist and she shivered. “It was always a date,” he said again and began walking her down the hallway to the bedroom.
