Welcome Author Callie Hutton!
Hiya, readers! It's my pleasure to welcome (and possibly introduce you to) author Callie Hutton! Callie writes mischievously good romances, both historical and contemporary. Plus she's an all-around fun girl to have around. Her latest release, Daniel's Desire is out from Crimson Romance, but before we get to that yumminess, Callie's agreed to answer my five simple (mostly) questions!
Kristina: M&Ms, Chips 'n Dip, Jell-O Shots…what's your snack of choice when you're on deadline?
Callie: Ugh, you gonna hate me. I don’t snack when I’m on a deadline. In fact, I don’t snack at all, because I eat several small meals a day.
Kristina: Nope, no judgement here, just more snacks for the rest of us. Although your plan for several small meals sounds promising....Okay, back on track: What most surprised you about the publishing process?
Callie: How much work was involved once the book was sold. I spend almost an equal amount of time writing, and then promoting.
Kristina: Some days I wonder when I'll actually get to the writing! When the writing gets tough, who do you lean on?
Callie: I brainstorm every Sunday with a group of woman from my RWA chapter. I also have an online crit group I depend heavily on. I also brainstorm with my family members, hubby, son, daughter, future daughter-in-law.
Kristina: Oh, I love that your support system includes your family! What are you listening to right now and does your listening choice influence your writing?
Callie: At this very moment I’m listening to “Do I?” by Luke Bryan. Everything influences my writing. Songs, comments people make, movies, sights, smells and sounds while I’m out and about.
Kristina: Oh, that song...it's a story unto itself, isn't it? Okay, tell us one interesting thing about this book or its characters that didn't make in 'between the covers'?
Callie: This book started out as an anthology with a few other writers. Eventually, we decided it would be better to make each story separate from the others.
All About Daniel's Desire:
When Confederate soldier, Lt. Daniel McCoy makes his escape from a Union prison toward the end of the Civil War, his only thought is to get as far away from enemy territory as possible. But he doesn’t count on saving young widow Rosemarie Wilson’s life from an infected leg wound.
Rosemarie has no use for Rebels soldiers, having lost everything, including her husband, the last time they came to her home. However, Daniel has not only saved her life, but is sticking around to help with the farm and her three children until she recovers.
With Union soldiers searching for him, every day Daniel remains puts him in danger. Or is the beautiful widow who has captured his heart the greater risk?

Daniel's Desire - Excerpt:
The moonlight filtering through the window cast an eerie glow over the room. She shifted onto her side, clasping her hands together under her cheek. More than an hour passed before she felt herself drifting off.
Rosemarie’s eyelid’s popped open. What was that noise? She rolled onto her back as Daniel walked through the bedroom door. He stopped inside the door and stared at her. Slowly, he moved to her side and squatted down.
Her heart thumped so loudly, he must’ve heard it. Happiness warred with fear. His return put him in jeopardy, and her heart in danger.
He studied her face, his eyes seeking an answer to a question she wasn’t sure she wanted to answer. He ran his knuckles over her cheek. “I wanted to lead them away from here, so they would leave you in peace.”
“I thought you were halfway to Kentucky by now,” she whispered.
He smiled, flashing straight white teeth. “It crossed my mind, but you still need help.”
“Is that the only reason you came back?” She inhaled sharply, amazed at what she’d asked him.
“No.” He lowered his head, his breath fanning her face. “But I need to leave one day. You must know that.”
“I do.” The last words she murmured before he took possession of her mouth.
